Jackson County, Mississippi

Government/Municipal projects

ARCHITECT:

Walter T. Bolton Associates

PROJECT LOCATION:

Jackson County, Mississippi

Three 10,000-square-foot shelters located in the Hurley, Vancleave and St. Martin communities were built to meet FEMA’s stringent 361 guidelines for tornado and hurricane shelters and can withstand 200-mph winds. Each building includes insulated concrete form (ICF) structure, intermediate structural steel, FEMA 361 doors, interior CMU partitions, full-service kitchens, stand-alone utilities such as water, sewer and electrical power, and independent fire protection systems. Prior to building the Jackson County shelters, White-Spunner Construction built three similar shelters in Harrison County, Mississippi located in Saucier, Lyman and Pass Christian.
