Mobile, Alabama (March 4, 2010) – Just one year after breaking ground, White-Spunner Construction completed a massive distribution center for ROOMS TO GO, one of the largest furniture retailers in the U.S. The $40 million facility sits on 62 acres in Pearl River, LA, and services ROOMS TO GO stores throughout the Gulf Coast, from Baton Rouge to Pensacola, FL. Boasting nearly one million square feet, the mammoth facility includes 43,000 square feet of retail space for furniture clearance items. The project created jobs for more than 100 people, and ROOMS TO GO is expected to hire more than 250 more employees in the near future. White-Spunner Construction broke ground on the project in August of 2008, moving more than one-half million cubic yards of earth, the equivalent of more than 50,000 fully loaded dump trucks. Concrete for the facility is equally impressive, requiring more than 25 major concrete pours to yield 50,000 cubic yards. Although the project is of a typical construction type for White-Spunner’s Portfolio, Project Manager David Purvis says its massive size makes it a marquee project for the firm. He adds that construction incorporated tilt walls, metal joists and green features such as an automated indoor lighting control system and a master remote control for exterior lights. Purvis credits White-Spunner’s commitment to safety and its vast network of relationships—from subcontractors to municipalities to owners—for the success of the project. “We have contacts all over the country and that gives us a competitive advantage,” he notes. ROOMS TO GO took occupancy of the facility on time and on budget in August 2009. “White-Spunner is top notch,” says Jeffrey Seaman, President and CEO of ROOMS TO GO. “We had an existing relationship with them before, and we look forward to working with them again,” he continues.
