U.S. Army Corps of Engineers selects joint venture partnership between Mobile-based builder and G&M Associates of Nashville to participate in two Multiple Award Task Order Contracts Mobile, Alabama (July 28, 2010) Mobile-based White-Spunner Construction, Inc. and G&M Associates of Nashville have been selected to participate in nearly $1 billion in U.S. military construction contracts. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, recently announced that the joint venture partnership between the two firms had been selected along with six other firms to participate in two separate Multiple Award Task Order Contracts. These two awards from the Corps are further confirmation of our strategy to become a first-class builder of U.S. military facilities throughout the world, said Hugh A. McCoy, managing director for White-Spunner Construction. In association with our joint venture partner, we cant wait to get started. The two Multiple Award Task Order Contracts are to provide design/build and construction services on various military installations throughout the southeast United States. The renewable contract awards are for a period of five years, and mark a first for White-Spunner Construction, an award-winning general contracting, design build and construction management firm. This is our first government contract for the U.S. military, McCoy said. Under the contracts, White-Spunner Construction and G&M Associates will handle construction projects as they arise at various military installations throughout the southeast, including U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army bases. We will provide our services to build anything they need at those installations, said McCoy. These projects could include building a road leading to a base or construction of a hospital, an infirmary, a cafeteria or enlisted officers quarters. The contracts save time for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers because bidding is done only once, allowing contractors hired for the job to respond quickly once needs arise, McCoy said. It expedites the whole process for the federal government because they have already completed solicitation for contractors and the money is already there for the projects, McCoy added. The dual government contracts, which each total nearly $500 million, constitute a win-win for White-Spunner Construction and G&M Associates. The contractors entered into a protégé/mentor agreement a year ago and have been pursuing joint venture projects all over the world. To successfully acquire these contracts, they needed each other. G&M Associates, in business for 10 years, was eligible for the federal dollars because it is a small minority-owned firm. White-Spunner Construction, one of the top 400 contractors in the U.S. and one of the top 20 contractors in the southern central U.S., brought 30 years of experience to the table. They were eligible for the contracts because they are a small minority business, and they needed us, the larger construction company, for their bonding capabilities and project experience record, McCoy said. The partnership has been good for everybody.
