Mobile, AL (August 24, 2012) - Acting as General Contractor, White-Spunner Construction, Inc. recently completed Faulkner State Community College's new Memorial Hall/Student Business and Instructional Services Center. Completed in just ten months, the new, two-story building, located on the school's main campus in Bay Minette, boasts 54,000 square feet and is LEED-Silver Certified. The time-sensitive project cost $6,109,398. Architects for the project were Walcott, Adams, Verneuille of Fairhope, AL. Departments under the roof of Memorial Hall include: • Admissions • Financial Aid/Business Offices • Veterans’ Affairs • Housing • Student Development • Student Services • Recruiting • High School Programs • Bookstore • Counselors & Advisors • Nine New Classrooms • Nine New Faculty Offices “It was a pleasure working with White-Spunner Construction on this challenging project. Time for completion of construction was critical as the facility had to be in operation for the Fall 2012 Semester,” states Jim Fitz-Gerald, Faulkner’s Dean of Administrative Services. “The efforts of White-Spunner Construction to meet this deadline are appreciated by Faulkner State and especially by the faculty, staff and students who now have one of the most impressive educational facilities in the State of Alabama in which to work, teach and learn.” Highlights of the new facility include a brick and cultured-stone exterior over metal-stud framing. The roof is composed primarily of asphalt shingles with an area of membrane roofing and standing seam metal roofs at the entrances. The HVAC is a chiller based system with individual controls via VAV boxes in each space. A large, roof-panoramic skylight channeled to both floors lowers the building's energy needs to ensure it's a LEED-accredited facility. Additional green efforts include water conserving fixtures, use of recycled building materials and finally, recycling of 74% of construction wastes. “We're honored to be a part of such an innovative project. This new facility shows great initiative and commitment on the part of Faulkner State to its students, faculty and environment,” notes Allan Gustin of White-Spunner Construction. “"Our company exemplified support of Buying Local by hiring more than 80% of all subcontractors and vendors from local, regional or AL state companies for this important project.”
